Police Arrest Tailor In Ekiti For Raping Two Teenagers

An Ekiti Tailor has been arrested by police for raping two friends, whom he promised to make nose masks for.

The man identified as 27-year-old Taiwo Odetunde, had promised the girls (whose names have not been disclosed, to protect them) but are said to be 13 and 14 years that he will make them nose masks, on getting to his house, he locked the door, threatened to kill them with a knife if they shouted and proceeded to defile them one after another.

Taiwo was eventually caught by a Vigilante neighbor who raised the alarm.

He was subsequently arrested by the police and is now facing one count of rape at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates Court.

Prosecuting officer, Inspector Monica Ikebuilo said the defendant committed the offence on June 9, 2020, in Ado-Ekiti.

According to her, the offence contravene Section 2(2) of the Ekiti State Gender Based Violence (Prohibition) Amended Law, 2019.

He urged the court to remand the accused in jail pending legal advice from office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adefumike Anoma, ordered the defendant to be remanded in jail, as no plea was taken and adjourned the case till July 27, 2020.

The incessant cases of rape across the country has become worrisome. For every case, as soon as the noise dies down on social media platforms, the case meets the same fate and before long another happens.
