A leading football stakeholder and Executive Secretary of the Club Owners Association, Mr Alloy Chukwuemeka has urged sports enthusiasts and administrators to cultivate the good habit of sponsoring grassroots competitions.
This, he said, is to provide the teeming youths of Nigeria who are talented in sports with enough platforms for them to develop their God given talents.
Chukwuemeka gave the advice while reviewing a paper ‘sports development in Kwara state, the journey so far’ which was presented by ace sports broadcaster Hameed Adio at the occasion of the birthday of the Coordinator of Kwara Sports Arena, Ibitoye Shittu.
He said “Sports stakeholders should galvanise the sector by organizing championships at the grassroots level and also by ensuring the revitalization of school sports to identify exceptional raw talents.”
The Football Director of Abubakar Bukola Saraki, ABS Football club Ilorin added that the media also have a very important role to play by maximizing the usage of all the available information dissemination machinery in setting agenda for the sports administrators to key into, for a well developed structure that will support the growth and development of sports.
Chukwuemeka reiterated that Nigeria must return to the grassroots in order to recover her lost glory in sports.
